Andy King says rejecting offers for their best players this summer has sent a clear signal to the rest of the Championship that Leicester City mean business.

City have so far rejected bids from Hull City for goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel and from Nottingham Forest for captain Wes Morgan, who has also been linked with Premier League new boys Cardiff City.

King says it is vital City keep their best players if they are to challenge for promotion again this season.

"That sent out the right message," said King. "They are both very important players for us. They have been the players of the year the past two seasons.

"It is important we do keep players like that, but the whole squad too because it takes the whole squad to get promotion. That is what we are looking to do.

"You only have to look at their performances week in and week out to see they are key players, definitely. With Wes being the captain as well it is a big bonus for us."

City have so far made just one signing and manager Nigel Pearson has admitted there will not be a lot of changes to his squad. But King said that could be a good thing.

"I think it is a positive," he said. "We knew we had the squad who could do it last season.

"It is very rare that you go through a transfer window without at least one change. But we know we have a strong enough squad to compete at the right end of the table.

"In the past at this club we have signed a lot of players and it takes a while to get to know each other and how each of us plays. We already know that now.

"We have had a year together and we know each other inside out. We plan to use that as a positive.

"We all get on very well. It is a good squad and we all enjoy each other's company.

"We have had a good break since the end of last season and the training has been good. We are looking forward to getting started now." Reported by This is 21 hours ago.
