Leicester City's Sean St Ledger faces uncertain future This is Leicestershire --

Leicester City defender Sean St Ledger says he doesn't want to leave the club, but is unsure about his future.

The Republic of Ireland international, who has a year left on his contract, said he was told at the end of last season that he was free to move on as City look to make cuts to conform with Financial Fair Play.

However, St Ledger has not given up on earning a new contract, even though he doesn't know what the future will hold for him.

"I don't actually know what the situation is to be honest," he said after scoring the goal which saw City make progress in the Capital One Cup at Wycombe Wanderers on Tuesday night.

"I got told at the end of last season I was surplus to requirements. But I have come back in and just have to get on with it.

"There have been a lot of changes at the club for this new rule on finance, and the club is having to make a lot of cutbacks.

"The manager has just told me to get on with it and to give my all for the club in the time I have here.

"I have a year left on my contract and I have never said I wanted to leave. I only ever wanted to play. This is a great club, I am from the midlands and there are a great set of lads here.

"I am very, very happy but if the club don't want me then what can I do?

"The club has great support. Middlesbrough isn't exactly the closest place to Leicester but everyone turned out last Saturday and were in great vocal form.

"We will see what happens. I want to earn myself a new contract."

St Ledger has been on the brink of leaving before. Shortly after manager Nigel Pearson's return to the club a couple of years ago, he almost joined Ipswich Town before being recalled following Sol Bamba's departure for the African Nations Cup.

"The manager put me on the transfer list when we had a little fall-out, but I got my head down and worked hard and he took me off it," he said.

"Since then we have had a really good relationship. I have always tried to get my head down and get on with it. Then, if the manager doesn't think you are good enough or you don't play, you have to work even harder and go from there.

"Let's see what happens. I scored an own goal at Middlesbrough on Saturday and scored the winner at Wycombe.

"You can't really write it and that is the same for my situation. You just have to get on with it." Reported by This is 19 hours ago.
