Richard lll (2 October 1452-22 August 1485) was King of England from 1483 to 1485 and the last king of the House of York.
He is best known for his death in the Battle of Bosworth in Leicestershire, one of the last battles in the Wars of the Roses, fought between the houses of Lancaster and York for control of the English throne.
His death signified the end of the Plantagenet dynasty and is also widely regarded as the end of the Middle Ages.
Until recently, the final burial place of Richard was unknown. However, last year archaeologists from the University of Leicester discovered the body of a man in his thirties buried underneath the Greyfriars car park in the city. The story captured the imagination of the public. It has continued to remain in the news, with both Leicester and York claiming that Richard's body should be permanently buried in their city.
