This is Leicestershire --

A sales assistant who helped himself to cash from his employer's till was ordered to do unpaid work in the community.

Robert David Green (26) admitted three counts of false accounting, involving a total of £291.

He originally denied any dishonesty while employed at Parkers Motor Services Ltd, Wanlip Road, Syston, but changed his pleas yesterday, on the day of trial.

At Leicester Crown Court, he was given a 12-month community order, with 85 hours of unpaid work.

Green, of Woodstock Road, Stocking Farm, Leicester, was also ordered to pay £291 compensation to Parkers Motor Services and £229 towards prosecution costs.

Paul Prior, prosecuting, said between September 15 and 29, the defendant abused his position of trust to access the company's till on three occasions to create sales invoices.

He said: "He made it appear as if he had processed refunds to customers in respect of car batteries.

"CCTV footage showed no stock was returned and no customers were present when the transactions were supposed to have taken place.

"He was dismissed from work."

Grace Hale, mitigating, said Green was of previous good character and was now working a self-employed joiner. Reported by This is 1 hour ago.
