This is Leicestershire -- A 26-year-old man has appeared in court charged with the attempted murder of a religious leader. Harjit Singh Toor, of Woods Close, Oadby, appeared at Leicester Magistrates' Court this morning. He is charged with the attempted murder of Sri Satguru Uday Singh Ji at the Gurdwara Namdhari in Linden Street, Leicester, on Sunday. Toor, who was wearing a white turban and a grey sweatshirt, is also charged with making threats in a public place with an axe. When asked by the magistrates if he understood why he was being remanded in custody he replied: "Yes, sir." No application for bail was made and Toor was remanded in custody to Leicester Crown Court for a preliminary hearing on August 27.
