Is this caterpillar common in UK? This is Leicestershire --

I found an exotic-looking giant caterpillar on my lawn a couple of days ago (pictured).

Having not seen anything like it before, I did some investigation and found it is a tomato hornworm.

However, I can't find any information to tell me whether they are common in the UK.

The only information I could find says that they are native to the United States, Mexico and southern Canada.

Is it possible it has arrived as an egg on supermarket tomatoes and ended up in my compost bin?

Looking forward to your response.

Sharron, Wigston.

My husband and I wanted to have a picnic at Rutland Water this week.

On arrival, there were new electronic gates – an improvement as it makes sure no one can leave without paying.

Could some of this revenue be put towards clearing up the dog mess left by inconsiderate owners?

There was not a space big enough to even put a blanket down to sit on.

Needless to say, we left without having our picnic.

It seems wild deer are a bit like buses.

I have been walking the woods and fields of Leicestershire for half a century and had never seen one until this week when I came across a fawn at the nature reserve at Ulverscroft.

Then, today, I saw a pair at The Orchard Nature Reserve, off Anstey Lane in Leicester.

Are there more wild deer around these days or have I just been lucky?

A professional career does not always mean you have to go to university

Over the next month, thousands of potential students from across Leicestershire will be considering whether university is the right route for them.

The cost of university in the East Midlands has been calculated as up to £52,000, including costs such as tuition fees, rent and food.

Not wanting to burden yourself with this level of debt does not mean a professional career is beyond you.

Many professional bodies such as the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) don't require a degree.

Studying for a professional qualification instead of choosing to complete an undergraduate degree can have a number of advantages.

You can earn valuable practical experience while completing your qualification, which could put you three years ahead of your peers and, once completed, you will have a qualification that is equivalent to a masters-level degree.

University experience could be an important part of your development, but it is always worth considering whether it is something you want to do, or are doing because you think it is the logical next step.

In today's competitive job market, three years' experience gained while studying for a professional qualification could put you ahead of your peers.

Robert Wilson, ACCA Leicestershire members' network chairman.

I had to reply to Ray Newcombe's article on Princess Di making a very loving grandma ("She would have been so proud", Mailbox, August 6).

I cried buckets when she was taken away from us.

I cried again when George was born because she wasn't here.

I was so pleased when they took him to her resting place.

I also wish for the prince to become second in line to the throne and William the next king.

Well done William and Kate and health and happiness to Prince George.
