Richard III: 'Wobbly' bones should stay in Leicester This is Leicestershire --

Richard III's "wobbly bones" should be reburied in Leicester, say some of the city's youngest Ricardian campaigners.

Children from Richard III Infant School and Sacred Heart Primary have given their backing to the Mercury's campaign to keep the bones of the former king of England in Leicester.

The pupils are keen to back the battle for the bones after learning about the discovery in school. They gave the campaign's "three-fingered salute " to show their support.

Richard III Infant pupil Frankie Neil, six, said: "We've done some work about him at school. I know he's got a wobbly spine and wobbly bones. I think the wobbly bones should be buried in Leicester. If we found him, then we should keep him."

Fellow pupil Rio Kyle, also six, said: "They found him in the Richard III car park.

"I've been to Leicester Cathedral and I think he should be buried there. He's our king because we found him."

Across Leicester, youngsters at Sacred Heart Primary, in Spinney Hills, were also getting in on the debate.

The pupils have been learning about the Plantagenet monarch through guest speakers and in their lessons.

Shane Matthews, 10, said: "I think we're definitely going to win him. A man came in to give us a talk and said Richard III invented poison arrows.

"He buried them, and weed and pooed on them and they got bacteria.

"Then when they shot people they would get poisoned."

Friend Harlum Williams, also 10, said: "He was found here, so he should be buried here. His bones could fall apart if they get taken away."

Teachers have sent letters urging parents to sign an e-petition backing Leicester Cathedral as the place of Richard's reinterment.

The online document has received more than 22,500 names.

A similar petition by York campaigners has about 30,000.

Jenny Barrett, head teacher of Richard III Infant School, in St Andrewes Street, West End, said: "I've signed the petition and I've sent a letter to all the parents asking them to sign it too. We have to get more than York.

"At first, I don't think we realised we needed to sign the petition because as far as we were concerned the remains were being reburied here.

"Now, though, we have to show how much this means to Leicester and show our support."
