Leicester PGA professional Jonathan Garratt enjoyed a dream debut in China.
In his first pro-am tournament since taking up the post as head coach at the Lantu Golf Academy last month, Garratt won the pro-medal and led the winning team to victory.
Playing the Nick Faldo course at Mission Hills for the first time, Garratt topped the pro-medal leaderboard with his 74 card.
He also led his team to glory with an impressive 10-under 62 return.
It was the first PGA pro-am held in China, where there are at present only 36 PGA members.
Garratt said: "For my first couple of weeks here, I was lucky enough to be looked after by my boss Andrew Smith, also a PGA member, who has been in China for nearly 20 years.
"Since then, I have rented my own apartment and it has started to get a little more tricky, for example, trying to order food or to find somewhere reasonable to eat out.
"But on the plus side, I have started to increase my student base.
"I now have six students who have taken up coaching packages with me, with each going for the standard 12-hours coaching.
"The next pro-am over here is scheduled for early 2014, so I am looking forward to that as well as developing my coaching work.
"It is very enjoyable and an exciting place to be working in golf."
Former five-times Open champion Peter Thomson, of Australia, was in China earlier this month to captain an Asia Pacific Select side against Team China in the Ryder Cup-style Dongfeng Nissan Cup.
Thomson said that there was no question the country would unearth some remarkable golfers in the years to come, as evidenced by the current crop of prodigies who have taken the golfing world by storm. Reported by This is 10 hours ago.
