Leicester Tigers boss Richard Cockerill will not face action from RFU This is Leicestershire -- The Rugby Union (RFU) will take no action against * Leicester Tigers* director of rugby Richard Cockerill for his post-game comments after the win against Sale Sharks. The news was confirmed by an RFU spokesman this afternoon. Cockerill had accused the opposition of "cheating" during a series of scrum engagements that eventually led to a penalty try being awarded to the home side. Sale director of rugby Steve Diamond responded by accusing Tigers of breaking the salary cap in a spend of between "£6million and £7m". Daily Telegraph columnist Brian Moore called for Cockerill to be punished for his comments, writing: "The Rugby Football Union and Premier Rugby should not tolerate this seemingly ineluctable diatribe against anything he does not like." Leicester released a statement this afternoon explaining the reasons behind Cockerill's comments. It read: "In retrospect, and away from the heat of the moment immediately following a tense and important league fixture, Richard says he could have more accurately characterised his description of the incident as 'gamesmanship'. "There was no intention to question the integrity of either the match referee or opposite number Steve Diamond of Sale Sharks." The RFU said they had examined any issues arising from last weekend's games, that Cockerill had no case to answer and that the matter was now closed. Reported by This is 5 hours ago.
