This is Leicestershire -- A nursery shut down without warning by Ofsted has now reopened. Blackberry Bush Nursery, in Countesthorpe, was closed at the beginning of December due to a "safeguarding and child protection" issue. Ofsted confirmed the suspension had now been lifted but said the nursery would continue to be monitored. Bosses would not give any further details about why the decision to close the nursery was made. Nursery owner Jane Wakefield said the issue had now been resolved and that the nursery reopened on December 19. She said she was confident that correct procedures were being now followed. "There were procedures that were not being followed by a particular member of staff and an internal investigation is now taking place, the details of which I can't elaborate on at the moment," Ms Wakefield said. "We have dealt with the matter and are now fulfilling all welfare requirements and policies. "All the parents have returned with their children and have been extremely supportive of us throughout this time. "I'm confident that we have everything in place that is necessary." Blackberry Bush is part of the Bush Babies nursery group, which runs several nurseries in the city and county. Youngsters from Blackberry Bush were offered places at one of the other nurseries while it was closed. An Ofsted spokeswoman said the nursery had made improvements since their inspection. "The Blackberry Bush nursery has taken steps to show it can provide a safe environment for children, so we have lifted its suspension," she said. "It is now able to open. We will continue to monitor the nursery to make sure it makes sustained improvements." Nursery staff will be inspected regularly by Ofsted in the coming months. As reported in the Leicester Mercury last month, Leicestershire Police had launched an investigation into a former member of staff at the nursery following "reports of concern". However, this has now been dropped. A force spokeswoman said: "There's no criminal investigation and no active role for the police at this time." After a full Ofsted inspection of Blackberry Bush in August 2007, inspectors rate it as 'good'. They also said at the time that provision for protecting children from harm or neglect and helping them stay safe was 'good'. Their report said children were cared for and there were clear and updated risk assessments, together with vigilant staff. In addition, inspectors said all the appropriate policies and procedures were in place and followed carefully. Blackberry Bush Nursery was set up at The Old School House, in Leicester Road, Countesthorpe, in 1999. The Bush Babies nursery group also runs centres in Thurmaston, Leicester, Wigston Magna, Oadby, Blaby, and Glen Parva. Reported by This is 11 hours ago.
