No verdict yet in trial of Leicester GP Bharat Shikotra This is Leicestershire --

The jurors in the trial of a GP accused of indecently assaulting a patient in his surgery are still considering their verdict.

The five men and seven women on the Leicester Crown Court jury were told by the judge yesterday that a majority verdict, on which at least 10 of them agree, would be acceptable.

Bharat Shikotra (52) denies sexual assault on a male patient during an intimate examination at Saffron Surgery, 612 Saffron Lane, Leicester, on September 7, 2012.

The alleged victim claimed Shikotra persuaded him to have an intimate examination, using the excuse he was checking for "scarring," following an operation on his private parts three years earlier. He told the jury he felt "violated" during an alleged 20-minute ordeal.

Shikotra, a married father of three, of Elmsleigh Avenue, Leicester, said nothing of a sexual nature happened during the check-up and claimed the patient was telling lies.

Shikotra, who was a partner at the practice for 20 years, has recently retired.

The jury, which first retired to consider the verdict on Monday, spent seven hours deliberating over two days, before being sent home last night.

They are due to continue trying to reach a decision today. Reported by This is 2 days ago.
