*Leicester City* striker Kevin Phillips may be at the last stop of his glittering career, but today he faces for possibly the last time the club where it all began.
The 40-year-old has said he may finally hang up his boots at the end of this season, calling time on a career which has seen him serve nine clubs and score 280 goals.
However, it was Watford who gave him his big break after he was rejected by Southampton and was stacking shelves at Dixons while playing for Baldock Town.
He was initially used as a defender at Baldock until an injury crisis forced him to play in attack, and his performances led to Watford signing him in December 1994 for £10,000.
He scored 25 goals in 63 appearances for the Hornets before being snapped up by Sunderland, where he became top scorer in Europe and earned an England call-up.
Now Phillips is planning for when his playing days come to an end and admits he is keen to pursue management.
But in the meantime, he is focused on extending City's incredible nine-game winning streak against his former club and finishing with another promotion.
He credits this season's incredible form on how City bounced back from their play-off heartache, ironically at Watford.
"We have now won nine on the bounce – a club record – and we are very pleased how it is going. We are in a really healthy position, which is vital going into the last part of the season," said Phillips in his Sky Sports blog.
"We have a good blend of youth and experience, and the pace that you need to succeed in the Championship, but credit has to be given to the manager, the staff and the players on the way they have come back from losing in the play-offs last season.
"To go on the run they have done is great testament to the players, and we have to do that until the end of the season if we want to get promoted."
Phillips has certainly made a big impact with his team-mates. He went on off the bench to score the winner last week at Bournemouth and midfielder Matty James thinks Phillips will have a big role to play.
"You can see how fit he is," said James. "For a 40-year-old he looks like a 25-year-old. He has looked after himself.
"Hopefully he can nick in with a few vital goals, like he did last season to help Crystal Palace get promoted.
"He has four promotions and we would all love it if he makes it five." Reported by This is 19 hours ago.
