Crystal Palace close to signing Fraizer Campbell from Cardiff City

Release clause triggered with £600,000 offer for striker

Crystal Palace are confident of securing the signing of the Cardiff City striker Fraizer Campbell over the weekend after meeting the £600,000 release clause in his contract. Negotiations are continuing over his salary but an agreement is close, with the London club offering the former Sunderland player an immediate return to the Premier League.

Campbell, 26, was earning £32,000 a week at Cardiff though those wages came down significantly following relegation back to the Championship after only one season in the top flight. The former Manchester United trainee scored six league goals last season and, while he had been offered a new contract in the Welsh capital, he had also attracted interest from newly promoted Leicester City, who were the first club to trigger the clause in his deal. However, they were unable to agree personal terms and have since turned their focus elsewhere.
