Toby Flood's painful admission after Leicester Tigers defeat to Bath This is Leicestershire --

Leicester Tigers skipper Toby Flood had to make a painful admission that Bath "wanted it more than us" after the 27-26 defeat at The Rec.

The fly-half gave a brutally frank assessment of his side's defeat, which means their hopes of a home semi-final in the Aviva Premiership play-offs will go down to the final week's match against London Irish, on May 4.

Tigers were second best after the break to a Bath side desperately scrapping for the final Heineken Cup spot available.

Flood said that had made the Leicester dressing room ask some serious questions of themselves after the game.

"We led for large parts of the game and to not be able to hold on to that lead really hurt us," said the 27-year-old.

"We all put our hands up and said that was not the Leicester Tigers that we have known for the last three or four weeks.

"We were not as good, pro-active or intense as we should have been. We got what we deserved.

"Bath probably wanted it more than us, which is a horrible thing to say as a collective. Whether that is down to fatigue levels after lots of tough matches or on the day, I don't know – but it is not nice to deal with.

"They had an intensity level that was above ours. We scored some 'easy' tries in the first half and that made us relax.

"After that, we were not on edge enough and they probably got what they deserved."

Flood was in superb form with the boot, making all six of his attempts on goal to land a 16-point personal tally.

But that was of little consolation to the England fly-half after Tigers missed the chance to secure a top-two finish.

For Bath, props Dave Wilson and Paul James were superb and hooker Rob Webber made an utter nuisance of himself all over the field. It was Bath's best showing of the whole season.

"I hope it is a wake-up call for us," said Flood. "It should be.

"Sometimes, results like that are down to fatigue. After Exeter, Northampton and Toulon, it is hard to be at that level all the time.

"We were not as good or as smart as we should have been. And there's an expectation level that we have to get it right.

"We have a week off to recharge the batteries and chill out. We know where we need to be and a kick up the backside will do us good." Reported by This is 3 days ago.
