Leicester City's youngsters given a chance This is Leicestershire --

Leicester City manager Nigel Pearson kept a keen eye on his young prospects during their pre-season victory over Leamington.

Pearson fielded two sides for each half in his side's 2-0 win on Friday, each with a mixture of first-team and youth players.

Youngsters Alie Sesay and George Taft played the entire first half, while Adam Smith, Michael Cain and Callum Elder featured for the whole second period.

There were also seven Academy prospects on the bench, including Jacob Blyth, who came on in the first half against his former club.

City's Academy was rewarded for 15 months of hard work last week when it was granted the prestigious Category One status as part of the Premier League's Elite Player Performance Plan.

Pearson said it is a good thing to involve the younger players with the first team, especially with Financial Fair Play putting such a restriction on potential signings.

"Clearly FPP is going to create more possibilities (for young players)," Pearson said.

"Our track record would suggest that we do bring young players through anyway so it's not as if it's going to make a huge difference to us.

"You've got Liam (Moore) there who broke into the side, Andy King who broke into the side a number of years ago, and I think, historically, we have a decent record of bringing younger players in there." Reported by This is 20 hours ago.
