Leicester City 'just can't wait to face £162m side' This is Leicestershire --

Leicester City striker Jeff Schlupp is relishing the prospect of next week's clash with AS Monaco – who are set to take their summer spending to more than £162million.

The French side, who are backed by a Russian billionaire and expected to challenge for the French title this season, have already spent morwe than £110m on three players – Atletico Madrid's Falcao plus Porto pair Joao Moutinho and James Rodriguez.

They are now said to be close to completing the signing of Brazilian striker Hulk for a reported fee of £52m.

It will mean for the second time in three years the King Power Stadium has hosted a mouth-watering game against one of Europe's elite.

Schlupp, who is away with City at their Austrian training camp, said it promises to be a great afternoon.

"I've watched Falcao on the telly a lot, especially when he was at Atletico Madrid, and he is a great striker," said Schlupp.

"He holds the ball up well, he's got great movement and his finishing is second to none.

"You've only got to look at his goal-scoring record in the last couple of years – he's right up there with (Lionel) Messi and Ronaldo.

"It's a great game for us all to look forward to.

"The important thing is that everyone is ready for the start of the season at Middlesbrough, but the chance to test yourself against some of the best players in the world is what every player wants.

"I didn't get on the pitch when Real Madrid came to Leicester, but it was an amazing day to be part of and one that no Leicester fan will ever forget. Hopefully Monaco next week can be the same."

Schlupp has been utilised mainly as a left-back by manager Nigel Pearson, and he was asked to play as a wing-back in City's opening pre-season friendly at Leamington last week.

Although he says his preferred position is striker, he would just be happy to be involved against Monaco.

"I want to establish myself as a striker, but I'm still a young player learning the game and if that means playing left-back or on the wing to be in the team, I'm fine with that," he said.

Tickets for the Monaco game are now on general sale. Reported by This is 1 day ago.
