This is Staffordshire --MICKY Adams is on the verge of another new signing as he looks to strengthen his squad for the challenge of League One.
The Vale boss, who has brought in five new faces already this summer, says he's hoping to complete the deal today.
"We're working on something and hopefully we'll have some news soon," he said after last night's 1-0 defeat at home to Leicester City.
"One or two new signings will help us, particularly when you have the injury problems we have at the moment.
"If we can get another player into the club, then it would be great."
Adams unveiled former Leeds United left-back Ben Parker as a second trialist against Leicester, alongside Matt Doumbe, and said the move was prompted by a situation which has left Vale with five first-team defenders on the casualty list.
"We didn't have a fit left-back at the club, so Ben filled in for us," explained Adams. "We invited him along to have a look at him and he was helping us out of a tight situation.
"Matt did ok again and has shown he would be an asset not only to ourselves, but to any other team that might be watching him at the moment."
Adams is, meanwhile, hoping the injury crisis, which has left skipper Doug Loft, and defenders Richard Duffy, Adam Yates, Dan Jones, Joe Davis and Rob Taylor on the sidelines, clears up quickly.
"It doesn't look good at the moment, but hopefully the players will be closer to full fitness by the start of the season."
Martin Waghorn's goal after 13 minutes was enough to condemn Vale to defeat in their penultimate warm-up fixture and, though his team improved dramatically after the break, Adams wasn't amused.
"I was really disappointed with some of the performances from my players and I've told them that," he said. "It's about time we started getting our game heads on, because it's all a bit 'nicey, nicey' at the moment."
