David Nugent has made a remarkable recovery from an injury which threatened to keep him out of Leicester City's opening game of the season next week.
The 28-year-old striker suffered a tear of his calf muscle on the second day of pre-season training.
He was initially given the target of returning for the opening-day fixture at Middlesbrough a week tomorrow.
However, last season's top scorer came through 90 minutes of friendly action at York on Wednesday night, and said he was back on track to spearhead City's attack at the Riverside Stadium.
"The second day of pre-season I was running when I felt a pop, like I had been hit by a stone on my calf," said the former England international.
"It was a grade two tear of the calf muscle, but I am a quick healer and, in two weeks, I was back training again.
"I am just glad to be out there because I wasn't due to be back until the first game of the season at Middlesbrough.
"I have come back early, and to get 90 minutes is a big boost.
"I felt sharp in the first half against York and made a few chances for the boys, hit the post and had a header off the line.
"I was getting tired in the second half but I wanted to get the full 90 minutes in.
"The last 20 minutes of a game is vital because you know when you play in the Championship it is going to be a lot harder.
"That is when players get tired and it is up to us strikers to put defenders under pressure. That is when we get our goals, towards the end of the game.
"Hopefully, I will get another 90 minutes against Monaco tomorrow, if selected."
Nugent was typically candid in his verdict of City's performance in the 0-0 draw at Bootham Crescent, especially as the other half of the squad performed well at Port Vale the night before.
He revealed there was plenty of competition within the City camp to be named in manager Nigel Pearson's starting line-up for tomorrow's showpiece visit of AS Monaco.
"It was a rubbish game, wasn't it?" said Nugent after Wednesday's draw.
"There was no drive and it was a bit sloppy by us.
"We should be winning these games and everyone is disappointed with how it went.
"The boys played well at Port Vale and, by the sounds of it, they played better than us."
He added: "It is up to us to step it up in training now and show the gaffer we are ready for tomorrow." Reported by This is 3 days ago.
