This is Bath -- Teenage fly-half George Ford is believed to be heading to Bath Rugby in the summer after the England under-20s star's contract talks at Leicester Tigers reached a stalemate. The Leicester Mercury reports today that the 19-year-old son of Bath first-team coach Mike Ford has decided to leave Tigers at the end of the season in search of more time on the pitch. If, as expected, Ford does now decide to join Bath, the club will have to pay Leicester up to £45,000 in compensation for his services. Bath coaches Toby Booth and Neal Hatley both moved to quell speculation that Ford was heading to The Rec a fortnight ago, insisting that he was keen to stay and fight for his place at Leicester. After Bath's defeat at Wasps on January 6, Booth told the Daily Telegraph: "We are disappointed by the speculation out there. "His father, Mike, should know and he hasn't signed with us, he wants to stay at Leicester. And George is categoric about that. And that is direct from Mike." It is understood that Ford was offered a lucrative two-year deal by Leicester, who handed him his senior debut at the age of just 16 in 2009. Despite what Leicester see as their best efforts to keep him, Ford has now told the club that he sees his future elsewhere. Ford has been keen to guarantee as much game time as possible in any future deal but, with Toby Flood under contract at Leicester until the summer of 2014, Tigers director of rugby Richard Cockerill has told the young prodigy he must be playing better than his team-mate to earn a starting shirt in the big games. With Flood on England duty during the autumn internationals and Six Nations, Ford would have been almost guaranteed to start between ten and 14 games a season had he agreed to stay at Welford Road next year. Ford started 11 games last season and came off the bench four times. This year, he has already started nine games with another four appearances as a substitute. He made a huge impact in 2011-12 and his application, game management and maturity was a leading light in the club's successful run to the LV= Cup final victory, which included a semi-final win over Bath at The Rec. Ford also put in an excellent showing the Aviva Premiership semi-final win over Saracens at Welford Road when Flood was injured. But he has struggled at times this season and a series of bad days with the kicking boot could have cost Leicester dearly in a number of games they ended up winning by the skin of their teeth. His goal-kicking percentage currently stands at 64 per cent. As a result of Ford's decision, Kiwi Dan Bowden is expected to be handed the number ten shirt for the club's upcoming LV= Cup fixtures.

Bath Rugby deny deal to sign Leicester Tigers' George Ford has been agreed
This is Bath -- Bath Rugby have denied there is any deal in place to bring Leicester Tigers fly-half George Ford to the club this summer.
The Leicester Mercury reports today that contract talks between Tigers and the England under-20 international have broken down and Ford has decided to join Bath, where his father, Mike Ford, is a first-team coach.
Bath head coach Gary Gold, however, dismissed the idea that the club had reached an agreement to sign Ford.
"Obviously George is a good player and I'm not going to bury my head in the sand and say that he isn't, but there's no deal in place," said Gold.
"The simple situation is that we are not allowed to be speaking to players like George because he is covered by a movement management protocol.
"He hasn't signed with the club and at this stage we are not allowed to have a conversation with him.
"We are an easy club to label him to but we've got Tom Heathcote and Stephen Donald under contract here.
"My understanding is that there is no official statement from Leicester on it – it's all speculation.
"From our point of view, we are not actually allowed to speak to England under-20 players. Nobody is for that matter.
"By the terms set out by the stipulation of the Professional Game Board and the PRL we are not allowed to be speaking to those players, so to that end he hasn't signed with us."
It is understood that Ford was offered a lucrative two-year deal to remain at Leicester but the 19-year-old sees his future away from Welford Road in a bid to secure more regular playing time.
Ford made his Tigers debut as a 16-year-old in 2009 and won the IRB Young Player of the Year award two years later, but with England fly-half Toby Flood under contract at the club until 2014, the youngster has seen his starting chances limited. Reported by This is 5 hours ago.

George Ford will leave Leicester Tigers for Bath, Cockers confirms
This is Leicestershire -- Fly-half George Ford will leave Leicester Tigers at the end of the season, director of rugby Richard Cockerill has confirmed.
The 19-year-old will end a four-year association with the club when his one-year contract reaches an end this summer.
Cockerill said he was "disappointed" with Ford's decision and said Leicester had done everything they could to keep him.
He added that Ford will join Bath next season which would see him join up with his father and assistant coach at The Rec, Mike Ford.
Despite Bath director of rugby Gary Gold saying there was "no deal in place", Cockerill said: "I have been told by him and his advisors that he is going to go and sign for Bath.
"From a Leicester end, it's disappointing because you want your best young players to stay.
"If players choose to move on because they don't want to stay and fight for their spot, that's cool.
"But George has had plenty of game time and Toby Flood is a very good player. We pick on merit at Leicester." Reported by This is 9 hours ago.

We did all we could to keep George Ford - Leicester Tigers, Cockerill

Richard Cockerill has confirmed that George Ford will leave Leicester Tigers at the end of the season.
The club's director of rugby added that the 19-year-old has told the club he will go and sign for Bath, where his dad, Mike, is assistant coach.
Cockerill said Leicester had done "everything they could, both financially and contractually," to keep Ford.
He said Ford's decision to leave was "his choice, not ours".
The Tigers boss said he was disappointed with the move and was also very critical of the advice the teenager had received from his agent and father.
"George has been here for four years and we have spent a lot of time and money developing him," said Cockerill.
"But he has chosen to leave because he wants to go and play every week.
"From a Leicester end, it's disappointing because you want your best young players to stay.
"We did everything we could contractually to keep him, both financially and with the terms of the deal, even down to the small detail within the contract.
"But he feels he has to play every week and he feels he has been given (those) assurances wherever he goes.
"If players choose to move on because they don't want to stay and fight for their spot, that's cool. I can cope with that.
"But he has had plenty of game time this and last season.
"Toby Flood is a very good player and we pick on merit here.
"The same rules apply to everyone. You earn your place in the side and you have to earn your spot.
"Culturally, I am never going to put myself in a corner where a player says 'pick me or I am leaving'.
"It is not as black and white as that but that is virtually where we are at with George.
"Last year, he played in two semi-finals and two finals. And I don't understand why any young player, after being involved against Toulouse at the weekend, would want to take himself out of that environment.
"He is only 19 but the advice that he is getting from his agent and his father is that he needs to be playing every week. I can't control that and I am not begging anyone to sign for Leicester."
If Ford does complete a move to the West Country, Gary Gold's side will have to pay Leicester £45,000 in compensation for taking the services of a player who is still within the England Under-20s set-up.
And Cockerill says Ford has told him that Bath will be his likely destination.
"I have been told by him and his advisors that he is going to go and sign for Bath," said Cockerill. "There are all of the protocols around that and they will have to pay compensation.
"George is very close to his father and he wants to go and play for the team that his father coaches. You can understand that. That's life.
"For me, the advice he has been getting is wrong, but I have no problem with George and he is with us until the end of the season.
"He will play when he needs to play and if he is better than the guys we have got, he will play in front of them.
"But I want guys that want to play for us and George doesn't. That's it. We move on." Reported by This is 19 hours ago.

Leicester chief Richard Cockerill expects George Ford to join Bath Rugby
This is Bath -- Leicester Tigers director of rugby Richard Cockerill says he expects fly-half George Ford to move to Bath Rugby at the end of the season.
Earlier this week, Bath head coach Gary Gold denied any agreement between Ford and his club was in place to bring the England under-20 international to The Rec and that no discussions between the two parties had taken place.
Cockerill yesterday, however, said Ford and his representatives had told him he will move to Bath, where his father, Mike, is a first-team coach, when his Tigers contract expires in the summer.
"I have been told by him and his advisors that he is going to go and sign for Bath," said Cockerill.

Cockerill said Leicester had done everything they could to keep hold of Ford, who has been at the club for four years.
If Ford - named IRB Young Player of the Year in 2011 - does complete a move to The Rec, Bath will have to pay Tigers £45,000 in compensation for taking the services of a player involved in the England under-20s set-up.

Man admits leaving pig's head outside community centre used by Muslims in Thurnby Lodge, Leicester
This is Leicestershire -- A man who placed a pig's head outside a community centre used for prayers by Muslims has been warned he faces a possible jail sentence for the offence.
Liam Ferrar (24) appeared at Leicester Magistrates' Court today to admit religiously aggravated harassment aimed at the Muslim community. The court heard that Ferrar had acquired the pig's head at a wedding the previous summer and kept it in a freezer at his home in Brook Road, Thurnby Lodge, Leicester.
On Christmas night, December 25, he went to the Thurnby Lodge Community Centre, in Thurncourt Road, and placed the head by the locked doors, facing out towards the Muslim worshippers who arrived at the centre the following morning.
The community centre has been the scene of regular protests over a former Scout hut nearby which Leicester City Council was going to allow Muslim group As Salaam to use for prayers.
The protesters wanted the Scout hut to be kept for use by the wider community.
The court was told the protests had involved racial abuse being shouted by members of the Forgotten Estates campaign group, and other insults.
Group member Ferrar, who at times acted as a liaison between the protest group and the police, was recognised by officers viewing CCTV footage.
After being arrested on December 28, he "became tearful" and confessed, the court was told.
Louise Cocks, prosecuting, said: "The defendant is a member of the Forgotten Estates group that has been involved in the protests about the use of the Scout hut.
"There's intelligence about this defendant playing a fundamental role in the protest group."
Miss Cocks said that on Boxing Day morning, members of As Salaam arrived at the community centre to find the pig's head.
Moulana Mohammed Lockhat, the Imam for the As Salaam group, decided to call the police, who went to remove the head.
Miss Cocks said Mr Lockhat said in his statement that the incident was "extremely distressing".
"The pig is a creature Muslims are forbidden from using any part of," she said.
Miss Cocks added: "He says that prior to the pig's head incident he received malicious communications in relation to pig's heads and blood."
After Ferrar's guilty plea, the case was adjourned for a probation report.
District judge John Temperley told Ferrar it was an "extremely serious case" and that "all options, including custody" were being considered.
Ferrar has been required by a court order to live outside the area and has been staying with a relative in Leicester's West End.
Steve Morris, representing Ferrar, made an application for his applicant to be allowed back onto the Thurnby Lodge estate, but the application was declined.
Ferrar is due back at Leicester Magistrates' Court at 10am on Monday, February 18, for sentencing. Reported by This is 14 hours ago.

Bobby's restaurant, in Leicester, is among Britain's best, says Hardeep Singh Kohli
This is Leicestershire --
If anyone should know a thing or two about curry, it's a man who cooks and eats one almost every night.
Journalist and TV presenter Hardeep Singh Kohli did just that last year as part of his Indian Takeaway comedy tour – so when he says Bobby's, in Belgrave, Leicester, is among the best in the country, you know it must be pretty good.
Writing for The Telegraph, Hardeep picked out his top five Indian restaurants in the country – putting Bobby's up there with places in London, Glasgow and Bradford.
Speaking yesterday, he said: "I think Leicester is really important, not just to the East Midlands but to the UK.
"Bobby's represents so much more than just the food, with all the history of the area – but the food is always really good.
"Leicester is a special place anyway and Bobby's is the perfect testament of what makes it special.
"I must have been about a dozen times, but it's not often enough.
"They do the Gujarati staples really well and the food is always really fresh."
Bobby's owner and director Enna Lakhani said she was delighted to be featured.
"We didn't know it was going in beforehand," she said. "A customer came in and told me about it.
"It's brilliant. This kind of thing really does mean a lot to us.
"A couple of people have mentioned it and I have seen a few new customers this week.
"They didn't say anything but it might be because of the article.
"January is a quiet month so you definitely notice when you get new customers. Hopefully, this will get us a lot more."
Hardeep, a finalist in TV's Celebrity Masterchef, last visited Bobby's while in Leicester following the Diwali celebrations last year.
"He was really friendly and very jolly," said Enna.
"I can't remember what he had to eat, but I know my husband picked him out some sweets to take home.
"He said we had a good variety here and that the prices were reasonable.
"I would hope he picked us for the quality of our food and the service. We pride ourselves on always doing our best."
Hardeep's Indian Takeaway show came to Curve in December. He put his curry-cooking skills to the test against chefs from nearby Chutney Ivy.
He whipped up a meal of lamb pepper curry with cabbage, leek and broccoli, as well as takha dhal with butternut squash.
Chutney Ivy served up a chef's special dish of harri massala ka gost, with lamb, spinach, mustard seeds, garlic, coriander and onions and "special" spices.
The audience had to pick their favourite. The vote ended in a draw.
Here's what Hardeep Singh Kohli had to say about Bobby's in The Telegraph:
"Run by the same family since the early 70s, this upmarket café is always full of Indian people eating. It serves very fresh vegetarian Gujarati food, which comes from north India.
"Try the bhel puri, which is a street-food dish with crispy puffed rice, fragrant coriander, sour tamarind and soft potatoes. There's also a massive Indian sweet counter."
Hardeep is not the only celebrity to notice the city's skills in the curry department.
Britain's best-known Indian chef, Madhur Jaffrey, declared the city the best in the UK for curry during an appearance on BBC's Saturday Kitchen, in October.
Speaking about curry rival Birmingham, she said: "They have a certain kind of British curry.
"But if you want an Indian one, you go straight to Leicester. Do not pass Go, do not collect £200 – go straight to Leicester.
"You will find Gujarati curries of a kind you've never seen. There are noodles and soups you don't expect from curries." Reported by This is 23 hours ago.

Leicester Tigers 34 Wasps 8 - Cup hopes still alive
This is Leicestershire --
Leicester Tigers kept their hopes of retaining the LV= Cup alive with this five-try victory over Wasps at Welford Road.
The win puts Leicester, who started the day bottom of Pool Two, on nine points and still in the hunt with just one match left.
They go away to Llanelli Scarlets next week, aiming to top the group and reach the semi-finals.
Leicester's tries came through Logovi'i Mulipola, Michael Noone, Mathew Tait and Vereniki Goneva, who crossed twice, with Dan Bowden kicking a conversion and a penalty and Matt Cornwell two conversions.
Wasps, who have not won at Leicester since 2008, were outplayed for most of the game and scored a consolation try through replacement Hugo Southwell near the end to add to a penalty from Tommy Bell.
Leicester, even without 18 players on international duty, were able to field a side boasting internationals such as Tom Croft, Scott Hamilton and Goneva, while Wasps were virtually unrecognisable with five players making their debuts.
England flanker Croft was making only his second start since returning from a serious injury, which kept him out for more than eight months, but he lasted only 11 minutes before going off injured and being replaced by Noone.
Wasps dominated possession early on, so much so that it took Leicester the best part of 10 minutes to get their hands on the ball properly, although fly-half Bowden did make a horrible mess of a fifth-minute penalty from 40 metres.
Leicester took the lead in the 18th minute when Samoa prop Mulipola drove over from a line-out, with Bowden adding the touchline conversion.
Leicester suffered another injury blow on the half-hour when 19-year-old lock Tom Price, who was making his debut, was carried off after receiving almost 10 minutes of treatment for what appeared to be a neck injury suffered at a ruck. He was replaced by Harry Wells.
When play resumed, Bowden kicked a penalty to put Leicester 10-0 ahead.
Wasps flanker Tinus Du Plessis was sin-binned five minutes from half-time for a professional foul at a ruck and Leicester took full advantage of the extra man by scoring from a line-out.
They drove to the line and Bowden caught Wasps napping with a great diagonal run down the blind side to create an easy try for Noone. Bowden missed the conversion.
Bell sparked a period of pressure for Wasps at the start of the second half but they spurned a decent chance by ignoring an overlap.
Bell, however, put Wasps on the scoreboard with a 47th-minute penalty, and the visitors then repelled a promising Leicester attack by destroying their scrum.
Leicester centre Andy Forsyth created a great chance for winger Hamilton but the Kiwi's inside pass near the line was intercepted.
With the game starting to open up, Leicester's former England back Tait started to have a bigger influence and he finished off a fine Leicester move with a 20-metre dash for the line. Bowden missed the conversion.
Goneva scored Leicester's fourth try, converted by Cornwell before, with five minutes remaining, replacement Southwell salvaged some pride for Wasps with a try. Bell missed the conversion.

Leicester flashmob of girls in pink knickers launches cervical screening campaign
This is Leicestershire --
A GROUP of young women walking around town with their knickers tucked in their skirts may have seemed like a bad joke, but the girls were out to make a serious point yesterday.
The cheeky 'flash mob', wearing bright pink knickers, was organised by the NHS in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland and took place at the city's clock tower.
Organiser Heidi King said: "One of the main reasons women in Leicestershire and Rutland say they don't get their cervical smear done is because they are embarrassed."
"Today we are raising awareness by suggesting that having your knickers tucked in your skirt is embarrassing, but having a cervical smear test done isn't, it's normal."
Studies show the main reasons Leicestershire women do not attend their cervical screening appointments are embarrassment, fear of pain or that they don't have enough time.
So the campaign called "No excuses" has been launched by the NHS in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland. It aims to promote cervical screening to women aged 25-29, addressing the main barriers to screening and letting them know that if caught early, cervical cancer can often easily be treated.
The flash mob also made an appearance at Coalville Clock Tower in the afternoon.Among its aims was promoting www.noexcuses-nhs.co.uk - where information on cervical screening can be found, including advice and frequently asked questions.
Almost 3,400 women are diagnosed with cervical cancer in the UK each year – that's nine women every day.
It is the most common cancer in women under 35 years old.
Dr Sue Ellerby, Leicester's deputy director of public health, said: "The national target is to screen 80 per cent of eligible women. Last year three quarters of eligible Leicester women had been screened, but the response was particularly poor from those aged 25 to 29, where only 57 per cent accepted their invitation to have the test.
"These are the women who we particularly want to reach with this campaign, and they need to make sure they are registered with a GP to be invited to have the test."
Dawn Warner, an NHS social marketing manager co-ordinating the campaign, said: "We organised the flash mob to catch people's attention, raise awareness of cervical screening and to remind young women there are more embarrassing things than having a cervical screening test."
If you are female and between the ages of 25 and 64, NHS cervical screening programme staff will write to you every three to five years and ask you to go for a test at your GP surgery.
It is important that you attend these appointments, because, if caught early, treatment can often prevent cervical changes developing into cancer. Reported by This is 22 hours ago.

Historic Abbey Mills factory, Leicester, will become flats complex for the elderly
This is Leicestershire --
A Victorian factory once earmarked for demolition is now set to be preserved as a multi-million pound complex of flats for the elderly and vulnerable.
The disused Abbey Mills building is to be turned into 78 flats by social landlord Asra in an £8.75 million scheme.
The organisation had originally planned to knock down the five-storey factory, off Abbey Park Lane, next to the Grand Union Canal, and replace it with an eight-storey block of 24 apartments and 11 town houses.
Now, the plan is to preserve the historic former stocking factory.
Under the proposals, it will be converted into "extra care" homes, where residents live independently but have staff on hand to prepare food and help when needed.
Asra chief executive Matt Cooney said: "We are delighted to be working in partnership with Leicester City Council to convert and refurbish the historic Abbey Mills.
"The building used to be a stockings factory and became famous when it provided Captain Scott with his warmth-preserving clothing when he attempted to be the first person to reach the South Pole.
"Our investment will mean the historic nature of this building is preserved and will now have a lasting legacy by providing ground-breaking care to the over-55s in Leicester."
The city council yesterday agreed a £750,000 contribution towards the project, with a further £912,000 coming from the Government.
About £1.25 million had already been put aside for supported living projects and the council had planned to re-model between 18 and 24 of its houses.
Now, £750,000 from this pot will be redirected to support Abbey Mills.
The authority will be placing people in its care in 50 out of the 78 flats, while the remaining 28 will be privately rented.
Councillor Rita Patel, assistant city mayor for adult social care, said: "This really is a fantastic opportunity for us. By re-directing some of this money to Abbey Mills, we will be able to provide people with more extra care facilities much more quickly.
"Not only will this redevelopment provide much-needed supported living accommodation, it will be preserving an important building in Leicester's architectural heritage."
Asra already owns an extra care facility, The Wolsey, next to Abbey Mills, which has 63 self-contained flats.
It has on-site care staff, non-resident management staff and a community alarm service.
There is also a lounge, dining room, garden, hobby room, hairdressing salon and an assisted bathing facility.
It is proposed the refurbished Abbey Mills will be connected to the adjoining Wolsey building via a bridge, to allow the new residents access to existing facilities. The project is set to be completed by March 2015.
Leicester Victorian Society spokesman Grahame Lees said: "We were very upset when we heard this fine factory might be demolished, but it is pleasing to see it is now set to be brought back into use.
"They did a very good job with the next door building so I hope this too will be a good example of a new use for an old building." Reported by This is 22 hours ago.

New 'Handmade' music festival coming to Leicester
This is Leicestershire -- Independent music promoters have got together to bring a new music festival to the city.
Handmade will see a number of music, comedy, theatre, cinema and photography events taking place at different venues across the city centre from Friday, May 24 to Sunday, May 26.
Headliners Rolo Tomassi, Nine Black Alps and Three Trapped Tigers were announced today, with more set to be confirmed in the next few weeks.
Organiser John Helps, of Leicester instrumental band Maybeshewill, said he hoped the festival would help fill the gap left by Summer Sundae, which has been cancelled for this year.
He said: "With Summer Sundae given a year off in 2013, we couldn't bear to see a whole year pass without an awesome festival in Leicester.
"While we would never try to replace it, and while we sincerely hope to see it's return in 2014, Handmade is our idea of what an arts festival should be for Leicester."
Early bird tickets are on sale now, priced at £20. This will give festival-goers a wristband allowing entry to all the venues.
Venues confirmed so far are Firebug, The Crumblin' Cookie, The Guildhall and The Leicester People's Photographic Gallery, with more to be added.
"We'll be taking over some of the city's best loved established venues and bars alongside 'reclaimed' and downright unusual spaces," said John. "We plan to squeeze every last inch of our bit of the city full of 'pop-up' creative brilliance.
"You'll be able to catch nationally and internationally renowned musical acts, comedians and performers, alongside exceptional local music, art, film and photography talent.
"We'll have big news for you soon, but we wanted to kick things off by announcing the first of the incredible acts you can expect to see – just to give you an idea of what else will be coming soon.
"It's important to us that this is a festival for Leicester and that it becomes as much part of the fabric of the city as the buildings we're taking over. Consequently we'll be working with friends old and new from across the city to pull together the best new music alongside the national acts.
"We hope you'll join us for what we think will be something genuinely special."

Speedway: Leicester Lions to open season against Coventry Bees
This is Leicestershire -- Leicester Lions will be locking horns with arch rivals Coventry Bees. The East Midlands Bowl will be at stake when the two near-neighbours clash at Beaumont Park on Saturday, March 16. The competition was the traditional season-opener between the two clubs before the end of the Lions' Blackbird Road era in 1983. It will be the first competitive meeting of the season at Beaumont Park and promoter David Hemsley said: "It is great to resurrect the East Midlands Bowl and the traditional rivalry from two clubs full of history. "This will be the first time in the modern era of Leicester Speedway that the two teams have come face-to-face on a full one-to-seven basis and it is fantastic we have that opportunity. "It is an excellent way to start our 2013 campaign, and it continues to demonstrate that Leicester Speedway is fully committed to operating at the highest level of competition. "We look forward to welcoming Grand Prix stars such as Krzysztof Kasprzak and British champion Scott Nicholls gracing our shale. "I am sure the supporters will turn out in force to support the Lions and Bees when the oldest Midland's derby of them all recommences on March 16." Elite League Coventry will be at full strength apart from Adam Roynon, who will be making his debut for the Lions against his parent club, so the Bees will be tracking a guest as a replacement. "This is a mouth-watering opener for both Coventry and Leicester," said Bees promoter Mick Horton. "This meeting will generate a big crowd and will give Leicester a real test against us. "Our relationship is very good and I am more than happy to take this challenge. We will be at full strength and this meeting will give the boys a chance to brush off the cobwebs. "I think the Leicester promotion have done a great job with the club and I certainly hope they will join us in the top flight for 2014."
