The Chief Constable of Leicestershire Police, Simon Cole, will join firefighters today at the reopening of Shepshed Fire and Rescue Station.
A number of dignitaries from across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland will be at the dedication ceremony which is being held in the memory of two firefighters, Mick Bird and Ray Savage, and two police officers, Bryan Moore and Andy Munn, who were killed while on duty. Reverend John Bird will conduct the ceremony, dedicating a new memorial stone within the grounds of the station.
Chief Fire and Rescue Officer Dave Webb said: “The refurbished station will enhance our ability to deliver an effective fire and rescue service to the surrounding area, and continue to provide our firefighters with invaluable specialist training.
“I am particularly pleased that we will dedicate a new memorial stone at this station to our firefighter and police colleagues, who were a valued part of the emergency services and their community.”
The Chief Constable of Leicestershire Police, Simon Cole, said: "Firefighters and police officers share a special virtue: when others run away from danger, they run towards it.
“This splendid new fire station and its memorial stone stand as an enduring testament to the selflessness and courage of Mick, Ray, Andy and Bryan and of all colleagues in the emergency services whose lives have been lost protecting and serving their communities."
