This is Leicestershire -- Police have launched a murder investigation after a man from Leicester was shot in the stomach outside a Birmingham nightclub. Sylvester Koroma, 35, died in hospital yesterday, eight days after he was shot once in the abdomen while he was standing outside a club in Digbeth. Mr Koroma, who police said lived in Highfields and was a father-of-one, had travelled from Leicester with a number of friends to attend a music event. The detective leading the investigation said none of Mr Koroma's friends – including some who had visited him in hospital – had yet been prepared to speak to officers about what had led to the attack. Mr Koroma's family issued a statement through West Midlands Police today. In it, they said: "Sylvester was a kind, gentle loving father, brother, son and friend. "He was a very happy person, who always lit the room up with his smile. "Sylvester always lived life to the fullest and was admired and respected by many. "He warmed the hearts of anyone he knew and will be truly missed." West Midlands Police said Mr Koroma was rushed to hospital after he was shot once in the abdomen as he was standing outside the Rainbow Warehouse, in Digbeth High Street on Saturday, August 10. Police, including an armed response team and the force's helicopter, were called to the scene shortly after 11.45pm. Two men were arrested at the scene, while a further man and a woman – who police said have "connections with Leicester"– were arrested by detectives on Thursday. All four have been released on bail with conditions while detectives continue their investigation. Detective Chief Inspector Sab Johal, of West Midlands Police CID, said: "We have spoken to several people who were at the nightclub and in the area of the shooting that fateful night, but we still believe there are many more who are yet to come forward. "We want to speak to all those who were in attendance at the Rainbow Warehouse and who saw what happened in the lead up to Sylvester being shot. "The motive for the shooting remains unclear but initial inquiries indicate this was a targeted attack. "If we are to understand why this shooting occurred and bring those responsible before the courts, I need anyone who was in the area at the time and has not yet spoken to police to get in touch. "I would like to reassure anyone who has worries of any sorts that stops them coming forward and speaking to the police, that we can support them in many ways to address those fears."
