New twist could see Paul Konchesky stay at Leicester City This is Leicestershire --

Defender Paul Konchesky may still have a future at Leicester City.

A deal that would have taken the 32-year-old to Championship rivals Brighton has now collapsed, it is understood.

City manager Nigel Pearson was talking to Konchesky yesterday about the experienced left-back's future at the King Power Stadium.

It is believed that Brighton had been interested in taking Konchesky on a season-long loan.

It is understood that talks took place between the clubs throughout last week, but no deal could be finalised.

Brighton instead signed Republic of Ireland international full-back Stephen Ward from Wolves late on Friday.

However, it is believed that those talks led to Pearson deciding "in the best interests of the players and ourselves" not to include Konchesky in the squad for Derby.

But Pearson did hint that Konchesky's future may still be at City.

He said after Saturday's 1-0 win against Derby at Pride Park: "It is in the best interests for the players and team today.

"He is still with us and he has not been included today, and we will see where it takes us next week."

Konchesky, who has played at wing-back, in a back three and at left-back already this season, provides Pearson with options.

Apart from Jeff Schlupp, the only other left-sided defensive options for the City boss are loan-signing Ignasi Miquel and Zoumana Bakayogo, who are both yet to make their debuts. Former England international Konchesky signed from Liverpool for a reported £1.5million in the summer of 2011 on a three-year contract. He is out of contract next July.

It is believed that Konchesky is one of the highest paid players now at City, having signed during the Sven-Goran Eriksson era.

It is also understood that the player is happy at City and is not trying to engineer a move away.

However, interest has been reported for the London-born Konchesky from Championship rivals QPR, although it is believed no firm enquiries have been made.

The Londoners may be interested in the situation as Armand Troare is out of favour and has been linked with moves away from Loftus Road.

Veteran Clint Hill was used as a makeshift left-back by manager Harry Redknapp Rangers' win against Ipswich on Saturday. Reported by This is 1 day ago.
