Leicester City dominate Wigan from start to finish This is Leicestershire --

"You have had some slow first-half performances this season, but your team were at it from the very start today Nigel," came the question from the floor.

"Again, I keep hearing about what we haven't done this year, but we have had a pretty decent start," came the response from Nigel Pearson.

It was crystal clear from his answer that the Leicester City boss believes his side haven't been given the credit they deserve for their good start to the campaign, and he may have a strong point.

Yes, City have been slow starters in many of their games to date this season, but have shown resilience and a spirit to come back strongly to pick up points when not completely at their best.

A return of 13 points from the first six games is a solid foundation for the campaign and, if they can have that return when not firing on all cylinders, what can they achieve when they do go through the gears?

Well, they gave a glimpse of that against a Wigan Athletic side hotly tipped to bounce back to the Premier League at the first time of asking, and awash with players with Premier League experience.

In contrast, City only had four players in their ranks who had tasted Premier League action, Kasper Schmeichel, Ritchie De Laet, Paul Konchesky and David Nugent.

But this is the Championship and City showed what the division is all about as they dominated the majority of the game with a high octane brand of football that could have led to an even more convincing win.

And this time they were at it from the very start.

Despite the talent in their line-up, Wigan were second best for long spells of the game and Schmeichel was barely troubled as City's superior work rate and strong back four left frustrated Latics boss Owen Coyle, admitting he would have made seven substitutions instead of just the three he made after just an hour.

At the other end, City were bristling with pace and cunning as Jamie Vardy and David Nugent linked superbly time and time again.

It wasn't just the speed of foot displayed by the relentless Vardy which caused the problems, it was City's speed of thought and execution. Had they been able to pick the final pass or shot on several occasions, they could have had a more comprehensive victory.

Pearson, who must have enjoyed the majority of the work done by his side from the stand as he served a touchline ban, had opted for an attacking 4-4-2 with Lloyd Dyer and Anthony Knockaert given City plenty of width, and that certainly added to the attacking strength.

However, the opening goal came from an unlikely source. Young defender Liam Moore was 33-1 to open the scoring but those who backed him were quids in when he rose to head home Knockaert's corner after 15 minutes to send City on their way.

Raised as a City fan, it was a dream come true moment for Moore, who had thought of so many different celebrations he would do if he scored for his beloved City that, in the end, he decided to do them all at once.

Wigan did have a spell of pressure towards the end but City wrapped up a good win when Vardy raced in behind Jean Beausejour and went down under the full-backs challenge inside the box. Nugent stepped up to dispatch the penalty past Scot Carson.

Coyle bemoaned the decision afterwards, but he could have no complaints really as City were the better team – from start to finish. Reported by This is 3 days ago.
