This is Leicestershire -- Drivers are being warned to expect delays around junction 21 of the M1 at Fosse Park, Leicester, this weekend. Work will be taking place to improve the junction by widening the slip road to ease traffic flow. Traffic travelling from the M69 and M1 northbound will not be able to use the junction to get into Leicester from 8pm on Friday, September 20, until 6am on Monday, September 23. The M1 southbound Junction 21 slip lane will be open, but only for traffic travelling into Leicester. Then on Monday, September 23, work will begin to install new congestion cameras along the motorway, which will involve the closure of the hard shoulder along parts of the M1 in the region. Helen Jamieson, project manager, said: "Once this work is complete, the additional lane will reduce congestion and delays within the vicinity of the junction. "We advise drivers to consider alternative routes or follow the diversion and leave extra time for their journeys if necessary." All the work is part of a £317 million Government programme designed to boost local economies, reduce congestion and improve safety.
