Granby Street stabbing: Witnesses sought over vicious attack in Leicester city centre This is Leicestershire --

Police are continuing to appeal for information about a vicious stabbing on Saturday afternoon.

Witnesses to the city centre attack said they saw the victim stabbed "six or seven times" in the head and body following an argument in Granby Street, at about 2.20pm.

A 17-year-old was arrested in connection with the incident, but later released without charge.

The 46-year-old victim was taken to Leicester Royal Infirmary with serious injuries. He is in a stable condition.

Two men were seen by witnesses attacking the victim outside a block flats on the corner of Granby Street and Calais Hill.

Police are appealing for anyone else who saw the incident to come forward.

Detective Constable Pat Coyle said: "We are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the incident, especially anyone who was in the Barley Mow pub, across the road from the scene of the incident, at about 2.22pm, on Saturday afternoon. We believe, from inquiries we've conducted, two men were seen leaving the scene on bikes.

"If you saw these men or you have any information about the circumstances surrounding the incident, please get in touch.

"If you haven't yet spoken with officers, we urge you to come forward. Any calls will be treated in confidence."

Police have not released descriptions of the attackers.

A 21-year-old man has been released on police bail after being arrested in connection with a nightclub assault at the weekend.

Officers were called to the Fan Club, in Abbey Street, Leicester city centre, at about 4am on Saturday. They found a 33-year-old man had sustained serious head injuries.

The man was dealt with by paramedics, who took him to the Queen's Medical Centre, in Nottingham, for treatment.

Police said he was in a stable condition.

An hour before the assault, officers were called to a separate incident at the Fan Club, following reports of an attack with a glass bottle.

Two people were found to have suffered minor injuries in the incident and were discharged after treatment at Leicester Royal Infirmary.

A 23-year-old man was arrested in connection with this and has since been released on police bail pending further inquiries.

Officers said they were not linking the two incidents at this stage.

They appealed for any witnesses to come forward.

Detective Sergeant Mark Stinson said: "We would appeal to anyone who may have witnessed either incidents to contact us.

"At this stage, there is no evidence to suggest that the incidents are linked.

"However, if anyone has any information that may assist with our inquiries, they are urged to contact us."
